What if... - Yuhaney - 08-13-2010

I'm throwing this random off-topic in the air.

What if YouTube would run out of hosting HDD space, then what would happen?

Nuclear war. Smile

Ray William Johnson would finally die.

People would move onto the next video service. Much like when a torrent site gets taken down - the next one explodes in popularity.

What other (good) sites there are besides YouTube?
I did fast research with Google and found two that has something good in both:
Veoh and Vimeo.

However, there's some limitations on both...
Veoh: has unlimited file size and length, but the resolution is only 540x304.
Vimeo: on free account, you can upload only once a week, and the file size is limited to 500mb.

They buy a new HDD? Tongue

RE: What if... - WindexGlow - 08-13-2010

Veoh and Vimeo are both big because they aren't youtube, they give something youtube can't. Video sites are extremely expensive to run, but youtube sprang up from nothing for a reason. Where there's money...

Actually, I read somewhere that Youtube has never had any significant profits, they are apparently losing money (or were losing, it might have changed by now).

They sucked everyone in by being awesome and virtually ad-free, and now it's soaked in ads.

But if YouTube is owned by Google, and those are Google Ads,then how Google exactly gets money by using their own ads?

Only possible solution that comes to my mind:
Someone buys ad place from Google for YouTube and they get profit that way...
