Headhunter: What is your card? I am 99% this is a driver issue. You need to check so you got the latest drivers, and if you have make clean install by doing uninstall, reboot and then install.

I think I got it fixed!
I fiddled with some settings in the Catalyst control center and everything seems okay now.

My friend has a Atlantis Sapphire Radeon 9600SE and doesn't know how to config it to make the game work also does she have to get the latest drivers or can she just do the fix?

A friend of mine has the X1950 pro as well and the same problems (tiled loading screen, freeze on opening journal). Will try the fix today, but like some previous posters I'm curious:
Is a patch for the full game currently in the works?
And will it take a little linger because you're integrating more fixes that this one?

If you read the first post then you can see Thomas says a fix for the full game will be sent out in a patch early next week
My personal thanks to you guys at Frictional for not taking the easy route and ignoring our X-Series issues. My 1800XT is now happy to run this game
