VR and the future of video game technology - Knickebein - 10-30-2016

Hi,

normally I'm one of the people who think let the graphic kiddos play their bombs, and VR would just be some sort of "nice-to-have" feature. Story and a professional concept are the most important things for an experience. But I never saw a game in VR before ...

So finally, an old friend called me I should come to him and play games in VR. I said "Hey, nice" and we meet us. And what shall I say? THIS IS A FASCINATION!!! Played some racing simulators and I felt like to be in a real car driving in a real world. Then he showed me Resident Evil demo and I felt like I would really be there too.

But the last thing was something like SOMA. An underwater demo. I was in a cage of iron bars and went deeper into the ocean, it felt so awesome realistic I was hypnotized by the beauty of modern technology. I got so immersed that I forgot everything around me, that I'm just in a small chamber. I was going deeper to the abyss and then a shark was attacking my cage and breaking off an iron bar. THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! You can't even imagine how it felt when you haven't seen this yourself.

I just thought how awesome it would be if SOMA would support VR! I like underwater locations so much and I hope Frictional Games is working on a further under water horror game. And please make VR support. This will be the most important thing for immersion. This is an experience, the best quanquence of technology since video gaming exists.

You see everything, in every direction and you feel like really being there. Please use this new technology for your future games.

I've been helping out Wiktor from my job a bit lately on his game Homebound! Really neat VR experience.
