macOS 10.15 Catalina - skrdeekat - 01-26-2020

Hey all, I wanted to play through SOMA again on my new MacPro but am getting an error—"unknown error" to be exact. Games that are 32-bit fail with a message stating such so I don't think that's the issue. I deleted the Frictional Games folder in Application Support to no avail. I don't know what else to try.

Using Steam, MacPro 2019, macOS 10.15.2 Catalina, Radeon VII

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

There is no 32-bit version of SOMA. Its only compiled as 64 bit so that should not be the issue.
I wonder if its a secturity privilige issue. Do you have any experience using the command terminal on Mac?

I'm comfortable using the command line, as long as it's not sudo rm -R /
For some reason the macOS Steam client lists SOMA as incompatible with Catalina as well.

Thank you.

Could you try browsing to the SOMA folder in steam and running:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine SOMA.app

It would clear up the security quarentine that gets added if the file is downloaded from an untrusted source. Let me know if it works!

Hi, thanks for your response and time.

I'm getting "xattr: SOMA.app: No such xattr: com.apple.quarantine"

I was able to run the game by running the Unix executable found in the app's package contents but can't launch it from the Steam client.

Thanks for trying this out! Since you can play it from the Unix exceutable it must be that we have the wrong settings in steam somewhere. We will try to get it fixed
