Data will not save - JBland - 03-02-2011
i am playing this game through steam and it will not keep my saved data after exiting the game fully. i can continue my game if i save and go back to the main menu but not when i exit completely. here is a screen shot of my computer information. maybe the problem is with steam? i have no idea.

I'm not sure I'm following. What do you mean by "exit completely"? You said it saves okay when you "Save and Exit" to main menu, right?

it has the continue option after i save and exit but when i close it, y'know, exit the game so its not running anymore and then start it back up in steam, it prompts me to start a new game and has no continue option

Hmmm, could you check in your documents for a folder named 'Amnesia'? Anything the game saves should end up in there, in a subfolder called 'Main'. This sounds like a problem with privileges to me though.

i tried looking for the amnesia folder but there isnt one in my documents. privileges?

Try running the game as administrator, see if that helps.

it doesnt give me the option to run it on the game shortcut but i tried to run steam as the admin, created a game, saved it, closed everything down, ran steam as admin again but there was no saved game

Do a search for a 'hpl.log' file in your computer after trying to save a game and post the contents here, just in case it is created elsewhere.

Okay, now for one last thing to try. Your game folder should be 'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\amnesia the dark descent\' - try running 'Amnesia.exe' as administrator from there instead. Also, do a check for file integrity in the steam properties window for the game.
If this does not work, try reinstalling the game, and if that also does not work, then I'm out of ideas for now.
