why QQ over "pointless" threads? They exist on every forum in countless amounts.

Simply ignore it if you wish.

No, just because everything that's going to be said has been said. No need to continue this when people are just going to keep saying the same thing until they're blue in the face (or the fingers rather...)

I suppose, but the topic has varied and I've been ignoring the (i wasn't scared, yes you were) stuff, because everything that's going to be said hasn't been said, or what would the point of forums be?

Granted this thread started with many rough and pointless comments, I have found a lot of intriguing posts as well. i.e. ideas of what one considers to define being scared, what fear is, and the different definitions of immersion.

The "just drop it" posts serve no purpose on any thread, because they are almost never (don't quote me on that) what end it. It will end when the conversation is stale, which can be at any random time.

Some people are not as easily scared because they don't have any phobias what horror games of course would like to take advantage of for an immersion factor.

^ interesting point, I'm sure horror games do shoot for taking advantage of phobias but being without any phobias doesn't necessarily safe-guard you. My only fear to a phobia level is arachnophobia, which doesn't apply to this game, but it still scares me.

Edit: I reread the post and now note the phrase "as easily"

You play Amnesia wrong, that's it.
Read the pre-menu again.

I don't get why people keep saying that. I put myself in the place of Daniel, but if it truly is a game where you can't react as you would in real life but must rather act against it, then how can I properly immerse myself in the character? Maybe Daniel is just too different from myself. Because I would do things SO differently IRL. And it reflects in how I choose to play the game.
And canned answers don't help the discussion either..."You're doing it wrong read the menu" is a silly statement, because there is no RIGHT way to play a video game...and if there is, then the game is flawed somehow because that limits the player so much that it takes away any hope for many of them to get into it.

in the phobia discussion, I'm really only afraid of a few things: Deep water, or rather, unseen things in deep water (thus the invisible water monster spooked me the first time pretty effectively), extreme heights, and bears. Yeah, bears.

I'm not afraid of the dark at all. I frequently go out into the woods at night without a light, just to hear the quietness and relax. Walking around without my lantern in the game has no negative repercussions, so I don't even worry about it...also you find like 800 tinderboxes.

You're one of those guys on CoD or Halo or some other FPS that send people hate mail for using the "wrong" weapons, aren't you?

He is actually right.

Although I find this thread pointless and easy to hate on... FG clearly say that the game should be played in a non competative manner and should be played in a certain environment etc.
