Solved: 8 Years, 1 Month ago problems with the game=(

my problem: when pressing the button "new game" the game completely freezes, helps reset button or ctrl + alt + backspase ...
game Penumbra Black Plague
AMD Athlon 2200 + (1,8 GHz)
ATI Radeon 9250 + driver Open Source
768Mb
Ubuntu Linux 8.04

Can yoy provide the output of glxinfo?

Specifically the line about direct rendering?

I am not sure if the open source drivers provide enough 3d support to play penumbra. You may have to I stall the commercial drivers.

Also note that the 9250 is not technically supported by penumbra.
( I have run it on a radeon 7800 in mac os x, though it looked rather basic)

my computer is suitable for the minimum requirements =)

Ubuntu 8.04 in no way binary drivers for my video card ...
ATI Radeon 9250 does not support already in 2006, binary drivers are only available in Ubuntu 6.06

can you attache the hpl.log file that is generated in your ~/.frictionalgames folder.

Second, have you tried setting the shader quality down to "Low"?

put all the settings at the lowest also disables all effect - and nothing helped = (
PS: I just installed the game, the game earned. with the run game has not worked, tried removes folder ~ /. frictionalgames, reinstall the OS - also did not help

hmm.. did Penumbra: Overture run on your system?

Can you try the binary ATI drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

As from the HPL.log it looks as though there is no fragment shader support in the open source drivers. And the reported texture units is completely incorrect

in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron with ATI Radeon 9250 is not possible to install binary drivers!
