No error message?

Try to include your logfile and that will make it much easier to come upp with what the problem is.

Well, you'd be better to open this topic to technical support, but I'm sure someone will move.
Anyway, check this topic and see if it helps: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-3754.html

Try installing into your home directory instead and also make sure to have proprietary drivers for you graphics card and that the graphics card is a supported one.

It's installed in my home directory. I have a Geforce 210 and i do have a graphics driver for it running. I looked on the nvidia website and they recently published one on 8/31/10 but im having trouble installing that graphics driver because its saying im running some kind of x server

Moving this to linux support, so it gets noticed as such. Should attract helpful people with more linux skills.

Have you used the find hardware driver tool in administration? You should preferably use that tool instead of manually installing a driver.

in home you have a .frictionalgames/Amnesia/ hidden folder, take the hpl.log file there and post it here please. Also you can try to start the game using the terminal instead, that would give you more info as to what might be wrong.
