How to create white fog/light?

So I want to know how to create white fog or light whatever it may be in one of my maps. Something like if you were in a dark cave, and you see a white light ahead. Something like that. I REALLY don't know that much of how to use particles (or even create them -___-) so yeah...I'm sure its got something to do with particles
