If you need inspiration, read some books, or even comics. That helps me. You can also think about other horror games and how they brought the story and jumpscares. Did you know that the Dead Space developers watched tons of horror movies and looked at photos of car crash victims to get an idea for the monsters and the jumpscares? Do the same! (Okay, maybe not looking at car crash victims...) Get inspiration from somewhere. Maybe something you like to do gets you a great idea for the map. Example; In physics class I accidently broke some boxes. This got me the idea of a path, that is blocked by wooden boxes, and you need to use a hammer on it to destroy them to move on.
