I've just bought penumbra series from steam but can't play

Everything looks ok. I'm not sure at the moment what could be wrong. There are errors in the log that shows something is wrong with the system for the game to run and black plague crashes because it can not create a model (probably due to the errors previously).

What graphics card is it specifically? Are you running the screen in thousands of colors instead of millions or something similar that might be a bit unusual?

Maybe try running the game in a window mode (edit cfg in .frictionalgames/penumbra/). Maybe try switching to the none testing version of catalyst.
