Fails to load save games

Hello, I purchased and downloaded the game from Steam, and was able to start the game and play without issue for a couple hours (very cool so far), before saving and quitting for a bit. However, when I try to load any existing save file, the game freezes on the load screen just as the load bar finishes, and attempting to click causes it to crash to desktop. Tried verifying files, uninstalling and redownloading, as well as checking video drivers and deleting the settings file with no change. Any ideas?
