Saving

I have recently Purchased Amnesia, the Dark Descent, and realized after i played for 2 hours and tried to play again the next day; my game did not save. I thought maybe it was the download (I got it from Steam.) So i re-downloaded this game. So i try playing it again, Same thing happens after i play it for a long period of time.
How do i fix this problem? It's a hassle to continue playing this way.
