Seems it is a problem with both, as in OpenAL not liking your headset. Unless your Windows speaker config (the one in the standard control panel for sound) is still set to stereo, I am not really sure about what is happening. Something we can do is reporting this to the OpenAL soft devs, see if they have some light to shed here.
