I disagree. While I would say my father is laughably inept at parenting in some ways I wouldn't consider exposing me to art one of the bad aspects. My dad was studying computer engineering in California when I was a child so he had a fairly high end machine and was also a big PC gamer. Playing games like Grim Fandango (which is now my all-time favorite game), Curse of Monkey Island, Unreal Tournament '99 and Half-Life really kindled my interest in PC gaming and I have been gaming ever since (on various consoles and now PC only again). Likewise with the films he watched: he didn't patronize me and so let me watch what he wanted to watch (within reason of course) which got me so interested in film as well. Thanks to getting such an unbiased view of those two media when I was young now I am very passionate about them both. If I had just grown up only kids movies and that kind of crap I probably would have been one of the majority that doesn't really care about art at all.

In hindsight I noticed I phrased my opinion wrong at the place you quoted and have changed that, good off you to pick up on that.
As for parenting and when it comes to what/who is responsibe for violence amongst younger, it all varies from case to case. When you are a child, nobody in the world knows you better than your parents. They can let you see things in movies and games because they are there with you and can explain what it is that is happening. What I'm talking about when it comes to bad parenting is when parents just leaves their children by the tv, exposed to all the things that a child can't wrap their mind around and therefore shouldn't see. There can be many reasons as to why the parent leave the child, many of those who crossed the law comes from a troubled past. You should not use games and tv as a babysitter, the parent must be with their child. Of course they don't have to sit next to their child everytime the tv is on or the computer is buzzing, they just have to be there to make sure that their child knows what it is seeing and why it is wrong.
