It would rather break game than work correctly. You can open both files in notepad and you will see that thier structures are completely different. It looks like some additional files like .hpm_Area or .hpm_DetailMeshes contains data about placed objects instead of putting it all in one file (like old .map does).

I assume you need to export AMP assets and recreate whole AMP level in new Soma editor.

However the level editor can open the .map file and hpm file, you can open files with the extension .hpm and .map
