Spiel startet nicht. Hilfe / Game does not start

I have the latest ATI drivers for my 5850 (10.9), uninstalled and then installed. There is no log file, but the game refuses to open after running the exe. Its from Steam. Seriously, whats going on here? I'm hoping I haven't just tossed 20 bucks down the drain.
