What components should I get?

I'm not a PC gamer to be honest. When it comes to the big production games I play them on PS3.

I would like to know if it would be possible to save a little bit of money now that you know that I won't want to be able to play the big production games?

I made my list of Intel components and it come up to £802.47 including peripherals + monitor which is okay... BUT it doesn't include the HDD as I couldn't find a reasonably priced one. Western Digital are known to be the best so i've heard but the flooding in Thailand hasn't helped >_< So if you could give any advice that would be great. (I don't have any hanging around anywere either :L)

Note that I downgraded on a few components such as the chassis, motherboard (to the gd55), the PSU. If you're worried about which i've chosen instead then just ask me to name them, but they seem pretty good (to me at least Tongue

)

ALSO, unfortunately I will need Windows 7 which is an additional £79 if I buy it off of the site... Huge pain in the ass -.- I may be able to sort that out somewhere else though.

FRAPS uses two cores from processor while recording (confirmed by technical support) and I doubt that RuneScape uses more than 2 cores either, so you should be fine with the Phenom II X4.

After doing a comparison, Intel would be around £150-£200 more expensive than AMD would be... So I'm not quite sure which to go with.

Money over Performance or Performance over money :L?

It's good that you found a GD55 instead of the GD65, it really saves some money. Change the PSU, as long as it's atleast 600W it should be fine.

Lucke, that is really your choice. I know that I wouldn't go down on money when it comes to my baby (PC), but it's also a choice of what you feel is necessary. I can't recommend you to go AMD as I only have intel experience.. I'm sure it's a taste difference too.

I've had enough of AMD myself (GPU's NOT included!! Tongue

) due to my own experience (might be because I chose wrong CPU few years back... Other AMD products might have been a lot better!) but the latest Intel i5 2500K vs. AMD FX 8120 (Bulldozer) doesn't give me any good results to go with AMD.

Also, worth mentioning that I was sooooo hyped about the FX 8120 CPU when AMD hyped it so much that it's going to be so much better than Intel's i5 (maybe i7 too?) series and waited for this CPU so long and then... well, just see for yourself from the video.

Here is the final cost I got for both routes... They both contain similar components apart from the CPU/GPU etc.

AMD

TOTAL COST = £717.31

INTEL

TOTAL COST = £852.66

Both do not include the Windows 7 software, but I reckon I can re-use the disk which I had for my laptop, (If this isn't possible please let me know)

I guess it would be best to choose Intel, despite it being over £100 more than AMD... You get what you pay for though :3

The video above is about AMD's latest CPU released in 2011.
Phenom II X4 is one or two years older than the FX 8120 which wouldn't in most cases even beat the Intel's i5 2500K.

But as said before: Choosing is completely up to you!
Make sure to check some other reviews about i5 2500K and Phenom II X4 before purchase so you know what you pay for.

You can use the same CD, yes.
But in case your Windows version is OEM (which I think it is, since you talk about laptop) you need to buy another license key or otherwise you break the EULA.

What if it isn't an OEM? Would that mean that there is a chance I wouldn't need to pay for another license key?

And i'm betting the license key is going to cost about £70 or so? Since the disk isn't exactly the important part of the package is it -.-
