That looks great. i would suggest adding some lamps to give more lighting. one thing, if you add in the desk lamps from aamfp, shrink them to 0.75... they're massive

RE: Screenshot criticism thread

Hello again! Made this map yesterday, I've changed a few dds files to increase the saturation of the grass etc. And well It was quite difficult to create a bright open environment like this in the HPL although I'm quite pleased with the result.
Also it's worth mentioning that I used the "zimmerman_ground" as a base only to realize that I couldn't use a skybox with that. So I had to remove it and try to make it look as if there's ground but It's really just a layer of planes. Anyways feel free to criticize this, I actually enjoyed creating this.

The grass is unrealisticly green, try making it a little darker so it'll blend with the environment.

That was the whole point of the level. It was not supposed to look realistic. I would raise the saturation on all the other entities as well but I'm not very familiar with editing dds files so I skipped that.

Example.

I suppose you did not read the original post.

I did. There's a difference between not having something look realistic and just plain looking bad and bringing down the rest of the environment. It really messes up any color scheme the level has going on, especially with the saturation. Without it, it's a plain but good outdoor level.

Well show me how a outdoor area is supposed to look like then? Because I don't see how it's plain, and I don't think you understood what I meant in the original post...

Google, or look at /r/earthporn to see how outdoor areas should look like. And it's plain because other than trees, water, foilage, house and the wagon/pier it has fuck all in it. Add stuff to it, a wooden plank here, a few broken rocks, different kinds of trees, maybe a toy on the ground outside, or a small ruined wall off to the side, a grounded boat, fill up the wagon with stuff. Add a barrel outside, maybe, a table and chair. Put some bottles on the pier - someone may have had a drink looking over the water - or add some spiderwebs on the outside of the house where spiders have taken residence. There are thousands of things you can do.

And just saying "you dont understand what i meant" over and over won't really change anything. I didn't say not to have grass, I said not to have -that- grass, for valid reasons. It is far too saturated. Technically, if we're gonna go by general color, the brown grass would suit it better. The grass is unpleasantly jarring. If you want it unrealistic, fine, that's your choice, but the way you have done it just generally ruins any color scheme it has going on, and degrades the picture. There are other ways to make things unrealistic, and I feel that oversaturating the grass is just a poor way of going about it.

Hm you may be right. Alright I'll make a few changes and then post it here again. The problem is that I can't modify the terrain the way I want cus I suck at modeling.
