Holy sheit, first thing that caught my eye - that odd-ass carpet. Pls remove it, it's really bad. ;_;

2nd thing - details, details, details! Add some more furniture, some stuff scattered around, bowles, papers, books and other ornaments. Also delete/tune down that fog particles. Also the lights are too orange - try to make them yellowish orange or something.

I like the lighting. Perhaps some faint darkblue billboards (no depth, halo ticked) by the windows. Might aswell tweak the color values of the particle effects a little, making them faintly blue and less apparent since you can see them cutting into the floor.

I don't mind the carpet or think that you should spam stuff in there, depends on what the purpose of the room is :] Environmental storytelling!

I would however have a look at the chandelier entities in the modeleditor and possibly tweak the light values to something lower - save as a new entity (don't overwrite default stuff)!. The strongest lights are currently focused on the floor and ceiling where there isn't much going on.

May I ask the mood you're trying to achieve? A cozy afternoon, a brutal storm, a comfortable hall...?

If I were you (I have my own style, you can do whatever you want) I'd make the room a bit more blue (more influence from natural light, less influence from candles). Also, add faint billboards to the windows, it doesn't look a lot like a window at all.

Anyways, I see potential there Smile

RE: Screenshot criticism thread

Thanks for all the feedback, I will see what I can do about trying to make some of the suggested changes. I do find I can never get billboards too look right so I will have to do some tinkering with them to add them.

As for the mood I was going for a very ominous but elegant look. It is also a entrance room to a series of smaller bedroom areas so I am not sure about scattering objects like books around (Not ruling out other objects), I feel like saving that for the library would be better.

It is nice to have some feedback to know what I can do to improve my custom story!

Check out my WIP custom story Dark Tower!

@The Chaser: The billboard in the first one looks like it could be darker. It's too bright, considering the lighting is pretty dark.

Otherwise, quite nice. Maybe the second one could use a boxlight, or something else. It doesn't make sense that some places are pitch black, since there's a lamp right there!

3rd one could maybe use some detail, but lighting looks fine.

4th: Nice! But maybe some detail on those wooden pillars would be nice, since that's where my eyes are focussed

Trying is the first step to success.

Yeah in the level editor billboards look better than ingame lots of times... gotta refine that.

Actually the second does have a boxlight, but it's very faint (it's in the same place as the 1st pic). The 1st pic is an underground dungeon, which is sometimes lit up by natural light, so the BoxLight isn't that much of a light, just an "ambient" light. I might make it brighter though.

The 3rd pic: It's a level I'm proud of to be honest it's one of the biggest areas I've ever done. You're right though, I'll try to put some decoration, maybe some welders, I dunno.

4th: What kind of detail would you put for a welder? I have no idea...

Thank you for the feedback :3

3rd: Wooden welders will be great! Because EVERYTHING is made of stone in that picture. So you're missing variation. Which will make it seem boring.
Throw in some wood.

Wood can also be decoration.

4th: Rope lying around.
You can have a sideway-pillar a little lower that the ceiling. On that you can have rope hanging.
Different boxes might add something! I'm not sure what this room is supposed to be used as Smile

Hmm try adding more details to the maps, like more dirt stains, papers scattered around and a few spider webs to get that old creepy room feeling, ya know?

Fog always makes things look cool, depends the weather, if it's gonna be night time try making the fog some sort of a dark bluish sepia!

The third pic "Haunted" has some dark spots, to fix that you can always try adding a boxlight, or make the point lights a little bigger for realism.

Don't rush and good luck, hope this helped ^^

Posted this on moddb too, decided to share it with you here on the forums! Smile

RE: Screenshot criticism thread

Hi guys, I kinda need your help, for my mod The Streets of London, the streets levels have the same ambient/level fog from MFP and I'm not sure to keep it or not.
Spoiler below!

Some of the reason I have the level fog, 1: It gives the night-time feel 2: It kinda covers some stuff from outside the playarea like railway bridges clipping into the skydrome and distant buildings that are not in the boxlight (make make the boxlight smaller and split into 2) but the lack of the level fog kinda gives it a more apoplectic look even through it looks like it's in daytime.

What yous guys think?
To level fog or not to level fog?
