Asus g73jh-rbbx05
CPU: i7-720qm
GPU: ati 5870m 1gb vram
RAM: 12gb ddr3

On high everything with SSAO turned down to medium with 16 samples i get a frame rate of about ~23. I tried turning down the resolution, shadows, SSAO, and parallax but it had little to no effect on my framerate. Turning v-sync off gave me a boost of about 4 more frames.

I'm running catalyst drivers 12.6 with the most updated vbios. Amnesia is up to date according to steam and my laptop can easily play other games like crysis, max payne and skyrim. Also I run gamebooster everytime i play so background applications shouldnt be a problem.

I figure that there must be something i'm doing wrong or some issue im not aware of because i would expect a far higher frame rate than this. Its barely playable and the frame rate drops everytime a gust of wind blows a door or if i walk into a larger area. I'm really at a loss of what to do and im dying to play this game.

I've included the hpl.log

if you bought the game from steam then do a file integrity check and disable any background programs

I ran the file integrity check before i posted and it didn't find anything. Game booster disables most of my backround apps and i manually disabled areo and my antivirus to test. I was able to reach ~29 frames on the lower settings. this is only testing on the hallway in the beggining however. im fairly certain that if i go into a larger room then my framerate will plummet again. last time it droped at the laboratory near the beggining. Ill test this when i get back from work.

Ill try uninstalling and reinstalling and post back if it helps at all.

Disabled gamebooster and now its silky smooth. turned it back on to double check and it was sluggish. It seems that gamebooster's frame counter is the source of the problem because when i turn that option off and run everything else its still smooth. Thanks plutomatic Smile i really really appreciate the help.

Set SSAO-Samples not over "8".
This option is a performance retard.
You should also try if it's better to set to "4".
