3ds Max, Maya, Blender, or others?

If I'd like to model things to amnesia, which program would you recommend to begin with? I have Blender right now, but people keep mentioning the other ones so I just don't know...

Try to compensate the fact that Maya is not fo fwee. :-D

Thanks!

RE: 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, or others?

Well, 3Ds Max is also not free Smile
The thing is, that 3Ds Max and Maya are professional programs. That means that not only they have better functions in general than Blender, but they are also more user-friendly and easy to work with. So if the money doesnt concern you, I recommend using 3Ds Max or Maya for general modelling. However, I heard somewhere that 3Ds Max has problems with the fact that Amnesia uses the Y-axis as height, whereas the 3Ds Max itself uses Z-axis as height. Maya should cope with that. So that's for 3Ds Max and Maya. Blender is free and thus a bit harder to work with to achieve same things as in 3Ds Max or Maya, but you will get accustomed to it, I think.
So, If you don't care about money, Maya will be great. If you do, Blender is okay, I guess. Smile

If you don't want to make very hard things, like desks and that stuff, I recommend blender. One time you use it is easy.

When dealing with Blender, be sure to bookmark http://wiki.frictionalgames.com/hpl2/thi...3d/blender

Blender can be used to create anything but armatures and animations for HPL2. HPL2 isn't designed to be a complete DAE importer, so the information in that article is valuable.

A simple search within this forum will let you locate several threads asking this very same question, you'll find the answers you seek there.

None of them have compared all three together and I had to search multiple times for a title looking alike.
There were only a bunch of "Maya vs 3ds Max" or "Maya vs Blender" threads, none of them allowing the choice of other programs. Including that, the thread starters had different compliments for the repliers to consider than what I had, for example, "I mainly create new enemies".
Okay, I can admit I only searched about eight times and only tried about four titles - it should've been at least the double amount and I'd be likely to find the ideal thread. I guess, Indeed I must be bothering a whole lot of busy forum folks, forcing them to respond.

I did already find my answer though.

Just throwing that in here, you can get free student versions of both 3ds Max and Maya if you register on the Autodesk website. They work exactly the same as the "real" version, except that you're not allowed to do commercial work with them.
So don't let the high price keep you from trying out the Autodesk products. Especially if you ever aim to work in the games industry you'll be glad you learned one of the "official" programs Wink
