WWII in Germany...

Could someone explain to me what the laws surrounding the mentioning of WWII are in Germany?

Like, I am told it is not allowed, but what specifically is not allowed, or rather, what can actually be spoken about between the period of 1939 to 1945?

And also the curiosity of what may happen if you do mention it or something?

This is all curiousness, and being in Australia, we just learn about the war, not about what happens after the war :/

Edit: This is in present day, not 1939-1945 Smile

It's a somewhat totalitarian state of Germany when Adolf Hitler was Chancellor of Germany. That means that the government has authority on all things, including your personal life and seeks to find it.

Hiding Jews or helping Jews escape from Germany is NOT allowed. You'll probably be tortured and whipped.

This happens in present day? I'm certain that Jews don't exactly try to flee Germany nowadays..

The use of the symbolism which the nazis used are forbidden (SS-symbol, swastika, nazi salute).
Though I can't tell you what happen, if you use one of the symbols in the public. Afaik The display of these symbols is only allowed, if it's for educaion or if it's "art".

Ahh understandable.
In turn, things would get censored if they violated the terms?

I thought you meant the rules when it was still WWII.

Yes. In some movies you can see these symbols, but they are more or less modified (e.g. a reversed swastika). In videogames they are often completely cut out.

Denying the holocaust in public could land you in jail. Seems a bit extreme to me; holocaust deniers aren't exactly hard to debate.

I find these laws to be much more disgusting than holocaust denial itself.

Makes me think of games like Return To Castle Wolfenstein, which would have a ton of changes to it.
And after some research, turns out they did. Good ol' secret agency.
Thanks for that!

Of course, I would never deny the holocaust, I have had to study it countless times and read about it (Night) in school far too many times, but neverless, there is still some pretty interesting stuff in there. Thanks for that too Paddy!
