I think the only models disabling would be useful for are things like characters or enemies, or otherwise complex and large models. Things that are estimated to only be used once, and thus have a lot of detail. Especially if this object is used more than once. A bookcase shouldn't be a problem though. I'm thinking more if you have custom models with higher poly-counts.
