But it's a risk. Even the devs said it. I agree whichever engine they find confortable to work with and be satisfied with the outcome is OK.
And game will have some SS2 (probably psionics) and Bioshock gameplay elements.

Spoiler below!

Engine - Our pre-alpha demo is in Unity, and that is the technology the team has been using for the past several months. However, we are familiar with other engines and are open to exploring options that make sense. Changing engines during a project is a pretty big risk and not a choice to be taken lightly. At the end of the day, we will use the technology we feel is best suited to deliver the highest quality game with the resources we have.

RPG elements - We understand this is a pretty vague term and has been confusing to backers. The original System Shock was ahead of its time and introduced a lot of new elements to gaming. We want to preserve that innovation and present a game we feel modern gamers will enjoy. Our goal is to have the gameplay somewhere between System Shock 1 and System Shock 2, with sprinkles of BioShock on top (rich melee attacks and ranged weapons, vending machines, upgrades, and damage types). If there’s enough of a demand, we’ll add a “Classic Mode” to one of the stretch goals that disables all RPG stuff as an option.

RE: System shock reboot

Hey guys, the Pre-Alpha Demo on Steam just updated. Huh.

I don't feel like streaming it, so I'm just gonna check it out myself.

EDIT: Played the demo again and here is what's new that I noticed:
Spoiler below!

- Most of the pixel styled textures are smoothed now.
- Hand grenades now work.
- Batteries now work
- Lead pipe now has an animation where it stops when hitting something.
- You can drink soda now.
- The medical bed right after the spawn room is inaccessible until nearby enemies are taken out.

Also, the Kickstarter is nearing it's funding goal with about $50,000 left to go!

UPDATE: (7/9/2016)
The Kickstarter has reached past it's $900,000 goal! It's happening guys!

Hey, the Pre-Alpha Demo just got a 33.3 MB update. Here is what I noticed that's new:

Spoiler below!

- Most textures do not have the texture smoothing on anymore.
- The lead pipe swings faster now I think?
- The security camera pupils now move like an eyeball.
