Which Graphics Card?

Solved: 8 Years, 1 Month ago Which Graphics Card?

Well basically I bought Amnesia a day or so ago, and upon trying to go on today, I can't play. No errors, just the game is crazily slow and each frame updates from one frozen picture to another every 30 seconds or so.

I use a 256MB ATI Radeon X1300PRO thingy, so I'm assuming from what I've gathered from looking around on here that I fall into the category of the x-series bug?

Anyway, I probably could do with a better graphics card anyway so if I were to just buy a new one which would be best for me to get? I'm pretty useless when it comes to computers/details, I just need an affordable simple but decent one that will keep me going for a bit.

Any help appreciated and sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything.

An ATI HD3650 256mb will set ya back at 40 Euro for your desktop.

I have the slightly inferior ati hd3650 mobility 256 mb in my vista-laptop and the game runs great maxed out at 1280*800 aa/smooth off :

Thanks for reply. Oops guess I should mention I use Vista too, you use the highest graphics with that and its that smooth? That looks the sort of thing I'm after.

Also I may as well ask, nearly all I've seen say HD - yet I'm pretty sure I don't, erm, have HD on the computer (if it even means high def that I'm assuming Tongue)? Does this make a difference, is there any need of it or cost difference?

Well , i"m not sure about this one , but i think that ATI hd cards are capable of editing HD-videos...

a resolution of 1024*768 is the lowest HD setting btw.

Ok well my computer is only a few years old so I'm sure it can handle something not overly powerful.

Is the Graphics card I mentioned in the original post actually BAD, or is it just for this game as an error that it won't work? Seen as I've seen posts saying they are going to be trying to fix the x-series soon, so I could probably just wait and don't want to waste money if I'm not upgrading by much anyway.

And if I do end up buying a new one, I guess I'd have to get someone to install it/set it up on computer seen as I'll have no clue - how costly would that be realistically?

No, dont get HD3850. That wont do much.

Get at least HD4870 or HD5770. I'd suggest 4870 cause thats cheaper but I think it should run new games fine with no lag.

Blegh, been looking at the stats on the one I've got and the 3650 and it doesn't even seem much of an upgrade if at all :\.

The 4870 you mentioned obviously looks better, but not really willing to spend £200 on it Tongue.

Guess I'll just wait and see if they can fix this bug seems to me is going to be my best bet.

Thanks for replies though Smile

True ,

ATI 5XXX SERIES or NVIDIA 4XX series are ofcourse better ....

think of directx 11 with tessalation etc...

but to run THIS game in all it"s glory for me , my good old laptop with the average 3650 is more then enough Wink

lol , i can even run Crysis(dx10) in the highest settings with it .....

Anyway , by the end of the year i"m gonna buy me a new laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 :

I have an NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti, and im running amnesia with 50-60 FPS. You need to turn of SSAO, or set it to medium resolution and 64 samples. I also run crysis 2 with 40-50 FPS and metro 2033 with 30 MAX.
