Well when you don't have openal installed, you get an error messenge on how the game coudnt' find openal.

Perhaps openal doesn't work with vista.

C:\Program Files\Penumbra\Episode 1 Demo\installation

Make sure the file called 'oalinst.exe' exists. For me it reads 764kb and is version 1.9.9.0 (the file version might be when you install it/varies from computer to computer, not sure)

I'm preparing a very small test app so that we can make sure OpenAL isn't the cause for the crash. I will upload it soon, so stay tuned.

So here it is. If working correctly, it should play a sample twice, while showing some text output in a console window. Please run it and tell us how it did Smile

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Still can't tell what your problem is, so got another test for you to try. This is an updated version of the HPL Sound Test published a couple months ago. It uses the game engine, so we can make a better idea of what's going on if it works. Again, same procedure: run it and post the hpl.log file. Note that this time the log will be generated in the same folder where the program is.
By the way, sorry for the delay, had some problems uploading the file Smile

Get the test here (megaupload)

Make sure you run a virus check or something also, don't know if that could be a problem or not.
