no, they spawn after picking up the key to the hallway... but aren't there monsters walking around in the hallway around the dungeon?

When I picked up the hallway key I did hear at least one monster spawn. But I just hid in a corner of the room until the monster-is-near-music stopped and went through an all quiet hallway to the exit door. So if they spawned correctly they didn't keep patrolling like the note had me worried about.
