Try to run it and if it fails as well (or even if it doesn't) go to Documents\Amnesia\Demo folder and attach me the file HPL.log found there.

alright so I have the same issues, I have the full version of amnesia and I dont even get a HPL log in that, my penumbra logs are just the basic ones the original poster has put up and I have tried all the same fixes, no resolve

are you using sandbox, another user today solved the problem by disabling it. Can you close any programs that run in the background and if it works, tell me which one cause the problem so that I can make a thread about conflicting software.

Also, I have Amnesia and its level editor...but as I just discovered, both fail to load now. When I tried the Editor (before Amnesia), it gave me a message about my AMD driver crashing and recovering. It may be the problem, or a factor... I require the driver to run Battlefield 3 optimally, however.

If I cycle back to pre-beta (Catalyst 11.9) drivers, Amnesia and the level editor should be fine. I'll give it a shot and then see if Penumbra works...


PROGRESS: I was forced to comepletely uninstall my drivers, and AMD catalyst, and delete (or it auto-reinstalled the drivers) any downloaded drivers I had (as the driver was still crashing, for some reason - perhaps it was corrupted). I am currently on driver version 8.901.0., from September 23, 2011. I used the install disk (though the card was purchased in July) and that was the earliest version I was allowed. Will try updating and seeing when it starts failing..

Updated to Caps 4, no problems with Amnesia, HPL Level Editor, or any of the 3 Penumbras (well, they start, anyways). Also, Battlefield 3 seems to work (again, it starts). Hopefully everything will continue to work when the full Catalyst 11.10 comes out (the beta drivers were for that version).

1) Download Driver Sweeper and install it. Do not run it yet.
2) Uninstall the AMD drivers and all of their components.
3) Now run Driver Sweeper. Select all AMD, ATI, NVIDIA, PHYSX traces and delete all the results.
4) Reboot your system and then download this:

5) After installation reboot your system again. Make sure that in device manager your AMD card appears correctly and try launching the game again.

will do when I get power back, now they have a full driver, I will do a driver sweep, not sure if it will fix.

They just updated Catalyst to 11.10. When I posted the link was 10.9, better for you. If the drivers are corrupted this will certainly fix everything.
