Game engine available?
I am working with a non-profit educational effort that needs detailed control in a low-cost game engine to develop interactive controls for an immersive lab.

Is the game engine used in Penumbra available? We are after Myst-like experiences with better controls than the current game engines seem to have. Those in your games would be better.

However, if you can only mod it and then use the game at a school it is possible for kids to play the original game in class, I'd think.

They probably wouldn't be impressed because it's not on XBox 360, but I think changing the source code to make an all new game instead of modding it would be more sane. Though it may be better when HPL 2 comes out, because I assume it will use some more realistic technology.

Seems to me this guy just needs to use to engine for some school task. Creating some physical puzzles in HPL would probably be more than impressive, why wouldn't it be impressive just because it's not on Xbox? Making a whole game for school would be pretty stupid aswell.

Worst regards, Kejdane.

The majority of the kids in my school are afraid of games that aren't on XBox 360. I don't know one with a PS3 and only a few with a gaming-capable computer such as myself. One of them went "oh PC games have shitty graphics."

You should definitely not listen to kids about this kind of stuff. I'm sure not a single one of them that makes such remarks has seen technology videos of the next-generation technology (such as DirectX 11 technology videos).

But besides that it's not all about the graphics, it's only a matter of time before they figure this out, and it's sad to see game companies actually listening to such remarks and trying to "fix" this in their future games.

Each time I help somebody setup Penumbra to play it (correct configuration) I keep getting amazed by the graphics once you enter the boat, even to date, and to imagine it has been like this ever since Q1 2007 since the release.

Maybe check this out (GPL licensed engine):
