Overture crashes after intro

This game crashes after I click new game, watch the intro that plays or skip it, it sends me to my desktop with a BlackBox saying

Penumbra.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module Penumbra.exe at 001B:004B0EA4

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I have made no setting changes, and I am able to run Penumbra: Black Plague after having Steam fix my problem with it crashing. But since this is a non Steam version I cannot get it to fix.

I have tried some other exe's with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

So the steam version works but the non steam version does not? Have you patched the non-steam version?

Well, I do not have the Steam version of Overture, I have the Steam version of Black Plague. Sorry if that was a little confusing. But I have tried to go to download the patch but it always says I do not have permission to download it. My brother has the exact same one I do as well (I assume he hasn't patched it because he hasn't played it yet.) Is there a direct link to the patch or what?
