I started making a new environment trying to apply what I learnt with Maya recently, its a work in progress but I plan to expand on it and make proper story out of it, if I can ever get my feeble brain around the scripting side of things!

Woo! I always like seeing new little environments people are working on =P

From the images it looks like a train carriage or something? I'm sure it's more apparent in 3D but it looks great! What do you plan on doing with this map?
Yeah it's a train carriage - As for the map, I'll probably try for something where you have to make your way to the control room and stop the train, a couple of small puzzles on the way there and eventually escape some enemies before the train crashes.. not too sure about a story, but I want to have a series of environments with the theme being like I am Legend (the book) where you're the last one left. More than anything though I want to get a great atmosphere and sound more than an actual story.
Looks like a very believable train. Am I right? I like everything I see, really a pleasure for eyes.

Only 2 tiny complaints... or maybe it's better to call them just advices.

The carpet pattern is a little bit out of place, it should be something a lot more simpler, something plain like that for example http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id...jgj8acupc3

And another thing is wood texture of the chairs. It looks a bit... hard to say... it looks a bit too rough, I do not know how else to explain. The wagon itself looks like a class A so the wood should be ia shiny lacquered wood like that for example http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id...jgj8acupc3
Awesome dude. Yeah an solid environment and atmosphere will make a good portfolio piece for level design, especially since it wouldn't necessarily be your job to create story anyway. Or maybe you're just doing this out of interest as a hobby which is still great!

Keep us posted with new stuff when you get it =)
Alex, thanks for the advice, I agree on those points. Thanks for those links, I'll probably end up using those!

Chap, its just for a personal project really, I am more into the 2D art side of things but I've always been into the idea of making something for a game.
I know this is tiny, but I love the little detail of the small wrinkle in the carpet. That's something that's often overlooked, and I appreciate the attention you gave to it. Smile
Aren't Train Carriages shorter on the width and height?

^
Like Streetboat said, the first thing I noticed was the wrinkle in the carpet. That is good that you thought of small details like that. I hope to see a lot more of them.
This looks really nice! Keep it up.
I really love it too.
Also the light look a little bit unrealistic. I guess a spotlight you are using for the lightbulbs? It lights a circle underneath the lamp, and the walls around it, but the floor next to the "lightcircle" remains dark. It should maybe be a little lighter Wink

Still keep up the good work, it looks really cool
