Discovering these games made me realise that I'm not just being a cynical dick to dismiss most current video games as forgettable garbage; Frictional proved just how much more there is to discover, and that it's something gamers will greedily gobble up like ravenous animals at a free buffet if they're just given the option.

Penumbra: Black Plague proved that horror can indeed be much more effective when the protagonist is helpless. Coming from the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Doom 3, this was more than welcome.

The developers' love for Lovecraft's themes of cosmic horror were also appreciated.

I' m a great horror games fan and when I found out Amnesia: the dark descend my life has changed. No games made me fear like Amnesia. I was immediately impressed with and became my favourite one.
