The problem for me mostly is that they are too similar and that some important information might be missed, due to the ability to move the head at wrong moment.
I think having the pick-up information spawn on your hand when you pick up an item is enough to make it distinct, but if you mean from a technical standpoint, then yeah there's nothing holding me back. They can be differentiated no problem.
I think I might stick the "protag's thoughts" text to the player's face for a few frames so you notice it, then detach it over time as it fades in so you can read it more legibly.
