Damn, I've played the game a dozen times and never seen that. Is that the only place where they appear?

I'm actually glad they weren't in the game in a more direct fashion; even in Penumbra I found the leaping critter attacks to be pretty irritating.

I think so, I haven't seen them anywhere else
Two questions regarding the engine:
1. Will it feature dynamic shadows from lantern, flashlight etc. (absent in Amnesia)
2. Will HPL 3 improvements be backported to HPL 2 or ATDD and AAMFP upgraded to HPL3?
1. What's this obsession with dynamic shadows? Noone cares that much. Their importance is insignificant.

Is it 2013? Ah, yes, it is. Just checking...
So what if it is 2013? A good game is not defined entirely by it's graphics. Otherwise, everything from Pong at the 70s to 2005 or so would be shit. Amnesia uses OpenGL 2.1 which is not new by any means but the graphics look just fine -> great at max. The darkness also helps of course(hiding details). I would consider unacceptable the lack of dynamic shadows at a game that I expect to come with it and from a company with many developers(cod,gta etc...).

So dynamic shadowing is not a feat anymore. Also you know perfectly well that my response was perfectly adequate to your post.

I don't understand your reaction. I own Amnesia and spread the word about all FG games. I don't think I asked an inappropriate question or that I don't have the right to ask such questions. I also don't think your 'no one cares' is substantial. Few persons I spoke with would actually trade Amnesia SSAO and so on for dynamic shadows like we saw in Penumbra. They also use my dynamic shadows MOD.

In any case I'm not interested in discussing the subject of the need for dynamic shadowing in a game like Amnesia.
