I mean we're able to access everything at the moment right? Don't we need to solve a task just like the piping and the zork game? We can't list the pk5 folder so we donøt know what to run, what if the maelstrom name is actually an executable that needs to be run.
Tried to run/play/read maelstrom.txt .exe .vid and .snd (and also moskstraumen) to no avail.
Tried running descend.exe too, twitter is hinting more and more towards the maelstrom as the center of something. My mind keeps telling me they want to tell us the location of something thats relevant on earth, but the game is in space right?
The game isn't in space, unless we've been mislead.
It's set on sub-aquatic stations
I was thinking an underwater station on a planet in space, but then I remembered the whales. It's probably on earth then.

Great post! I'm optimistic.
According to that page, the output is usually in hexadecimal. But the only thing in hexadecimal that I can remember is qWxx.txt, which was already decrypted using the Blowfish algorithm (with the contents of XXwQ.txt as the key):
EDIT: Ninja'd.

Maybe we're supposed to
encrypt something using Whirlpool. But there's so many possibilities for what to encrypt...
